Episode Summary
Dr. Jane Bluestein talks with Dan Deigan, founder of the Little Conversations Today Web site, to explore the hidden gifts in obstacles and challenges in our lives. Dan discusses the concepts of failure and success and offers practical suggestions to help parents and educators help children deal with frustration, challenges, and obstacles they encounter. This program addresses the language of selftalk, and how we can model and teach personal responsibility and a belief system built on the idea that every adverse experience offers a “window of opportunity” for personal growth and learning. Topics also include persistence, self-control, modeling, and avoiding reactive and angry responses to frustration.
Dan Deigan serves as an inspiration to others. His energy, passion, and laugh are infectious. He is a devoted husband, father, and the co-founder of the Little Conversations Today, a Web site designed “to help people overcome adversity one expert at a time.” A troubled youth, Dan’s life turned around when his father handed him a copy of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale’s book, The Power Of Positive Thinking. The concepts in this book as well as the work of Brian Biro, Ed Foreman, Zig Ziglar, Bob Proctor, Dale Carnegie, and Wallace Waddles led Dan to co-found Little Conversations Today with his wife Christine. Dan lives in Ontario, Canada with his wife Christine, son Brendan, daughter Jessica, and their dog Blue. Dan is devoted to making a dynamic shift in the world today. He lives every day with this belief: “Impossible is just an opinion.”
